Greg has been carrying out ecological surveys since 1979 and his expertise covers birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, flora and ecological communities. Surveys involve trapping of animals using Elliott Traps, Harp Traps, Pitfall Traps, Cage Traps and viewing animals using binoculars and a spotting scope and at night with the aid of a 50 W spotlight.  Call playback is used for selected species that are difficult to record otherwise.

Section 5A Assessments

7 part tests of significance – fauna and flora surveys to sample species, especially threatened species,  are carried out on sites planned for various types of developments such as housing subdivisions, road widening and quarry operations.

A seven part test is carried out for threatened species detected or expected to occur on the site.

Threatened Species Survey and Banding

Banding and flagging of Beach Stone-curlews, Australian Pied Oystercatchers and other threatened species for government and non-government organisations.

Young shorebirds are caught and banded before they can fly.  The results of these surveys are being used to manage and protect these threatened species.

Flora and Fauna Lists

Flora and fauna lists can be produced for property owners who have a desire to know what species occur on their land.  This can assist them in the management of their properties in an ecologically sustainable way.
